1. CONSTRUCTION OF BUILDING ENCLOSURE
The design and installation of the enclosure takes account of:
- The provision and locations of decontamination facilities
- The precautions to be met in order to prevent the spread of asbestos-contamination outside the asbestos work area
- Air quality within the enclosure (e.g. there must always be sufficient oxygen, and machinery emitting any fumes or potentially dangerous gases must be placed outside the enclosure, well away from any intake for the enclosure)
- The temperature within the enclosure
- Any other hazards in the enclosure
2. ENCLOSURE ZONES
Signage, partitions, fencing and barriers are erected to ensure the general public does not enter the work site. The security and safety of the asbestos removal site and asbestos work area are maintained at all times. The asbestos removal site is to be clearly defined and marked to ensure the general public does not enter the site and to warn people that asbestos removal work is being carried out. The distance between working areas and barriers is determined by whether the ACM is friable or bonded, the level of activity that surrounds the site, the method of removal and the types of barriers which are to be used.
3. NEGATIVE AIR PRESSURE CONTAMINATION CONTROL
The set up of the building enclosure ensure that all airborne particles remain within the working site. To prevent the escape of airborne asbestos fibres from an enclosed asbestos work area, an exhaust extraction fan will be installed in order to create a negative air pressure within the enclosed asbestos work area. The extraction equipment will operate continuously until all asbestos removal and decontamination tasks within the enclosure have been completed.
4. WASTE REMOVAL
We are licenced by the Environment Protection Authority which enables us to transport asbestos waste and supply a waste tracking certificate to ensure the safe disposal of waste.
5. AIR MONITORING
Airborne asbestos fibre sampling assists in assessing the effectiveness of control measures. Air monitoring includes control monitoring and clearance monitoring. Air monitoring is performed whenever ACM is being removed to ensure the control measures are effective.
